  • 2 vets poised for comebacks šŸ“ˆ

  • Whoā€™s hot and whoā€™s not in OTAs šŸ”„

  • The latest in the DeAndre Hopkins saga ā°

Jahmyr Gibbs (DET), ADP 40.8, RB14:

The scouting on Gibbs tells an auspicious story.

He showed he could play at Alabama.

He rushed for 926 yards and caught for another 444 in the passing game in 2022.

His 4.36 40-time is elite, in the 99th percentile.

According to Pro Football Focus, 53% breakaway run rate was 5th in this yearā€™s draft.

It seems Gibbs would be ready to break out anywhere, but he landed in a very fortuitous situation with the Lions.

Dā€™Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams combined for 421 touches last season (361 carries and 60 receptions). Both have left Detroit.

The rookie projects to split reps with David Montgomery, who hasnā€™t been quite as efficient as a runner, coming in 50th in true YPC (3.9), although he can contribute in the pass game.

Ultimately, there are plenty of RB touches up for grabs in Detroitā€™s efficient offense, and the reports from OTAs have been largely positive for Gibbs.

Heā€™s set up nicely for a first-year breakout season.

Zach Charbonnet (SEA), ADP 102, RB32:

No one knows how the roles in Seattleā€™s backfield will ultimately shake out.

But we can find clues in Kenneth Walkerā€™s performance, particularly in the passing game.

According to PFF:

ā€¢ 47th out of 50 RBs in yards per route run

ā€¢ Ranked 40th overall in pass catching grade

Meanwhile at UCLA, Charbonnet caught 37 balls for 321 yds on an 11.2% target share last year while rushing for 1,369 yards on 195 carries.

He also found the end zone 27 times in the last 2 seasons for the Bruins.

In other words, he has the chops to play.

Veteran coach Pete Carroll has been impressed with Charbonnet during OTAs, going so far as to call him a ā€œcomplete ball playerā€ that ā€œdoes everything well.ā€

(Tacoma News Tribune)

Ultimately, with skills in both the ground and air game, Charbonnet can position himself for a lot work in the Seahawk offense.

He may even take enough opportunities away from Walker to keep his production down.

Check out his PrizePicks prop. I like Charbonnet enough to take the UNDER.

Samaje Perine (DEN), ADP 107, RB34:

Another newsletter, another potential winner in the long-anticipated Bronco Revival.

Perine showed solid 3rd down chops last year:

ā€¢ 14th yards in per reception (7.6)

ā€¢ 15th in yards per route run (1.34)

ā€¢ 11th fantasy points per opportunity (0.97)

In all, he caught 38 balls for 287 yards and rushed for 394 yards on 95 carries.

But with Joe Mixonā€™s 7th-ranked opportunity share, Perine didnā€™t get a representative body of work.

Until his electric fantasy point explosion:

ā€¢ Week 13: 30.2 PPR points

ā€¢ Week 14: 19.3 PPR points

ā€¢ Week 15: 21.5 PPR points

That Week 13 game included 3 receiving TDs.

So, whatā€™s the situation up in the Rockies?

Javonte Williams tore up his knee last year, so there is uncertainty as to how ready heā€™s going to be.

Sean Payton expects expects Williams to be ready for camp (per FoxSports), but he and Perine are the only notable backs on the roster.

Perine should step in and contribute right away if Williams isnā€™t totally ready to go.

But even if he is, thereā€™s a decent 1-2 punch here.

Perine has a decent floor due to his receiving ability.

J.K. Dobbins (BAL), ADP 56.7, RB17:

Iā€™ve written about Dobbins before. Heā€™s been snakebitten by injuries and hasnā€™t had a chance to really blossom for the Ravens.

There was hope at the end of last year though.

In Weeks 14-17, he averaged over 17 carries per game with 93 yards or more every week.

That includes going for 120+ in Weeks 14 and 15.

In fact, over the whole season Dobbins still showed elite ability to break a big one:

ā€¢ 2nd in juke rate (43.5%)

ā€¢ 3rd in breakaway run rate (10.9%)

Letā€™s also remember the explosiveness he showed in 2020, when he posted the no. 1 true yards per carry (5.4) and had 11 breakaway runs.

Itā€™s taken Lamar Jackson and the Ravens a few seasons for all the pieces to fit together.

If they can do it this year, Dobbins will finally flip that talent into a breakout year for fantasy managers.
