Most large-field GPPs are lottery tickets.

I believe there are very few people attacking them with a true edge.

But major props to anyone who has been able to crush in those streets with +ROI.

I've taken a different approach with small-field GPPs

Okay, let's get started.

1. Being perfect isn't required to win:

Fewer opponents (lineups) almost always lead to lower 1st place scores.

Shocking concept, I know.

Nothing worse than the 1% owned player who you have to have to compete.

The funny thing is...

You may survive him in a small field GPPs.

You may even still be live to win.

2. Easier to build better lineups w/ stacks:

• Large stacks are very +EV in these GPPs.

Remember, we don't need that 99th percentile outcome to win.

Or that unique 9-leg parlay it takes to turn ≈ $20 into $1,000,000 on DraftKings.

• Larger stacks also limit the number of decisions you have to make.

Which is nice because....

I'm wrong a lot.

So I will gladly "trade down" for an increased likelihood of reaching the 90th-95th percentile outcome.

That's more than enough to threaten to win a small-field tournament.

For what it's worth:

I was late to this entire concept.

It's something I've come around to only in the last two years or so.

But it is 100% a game-changer in DFS.

Focusing on being more thoughtful about under/over-stacking based on the field-size of the GPP is massive.

What else?

3. It's easier to gain leverage and vault up the leaderboard quickly.

Single Entry vs. 3-Max tournaments are a much larger discussion...

BUT you will see ownership condense around the "best" plays in small-field.

This is a good thing. Because it's more predictable.

And it can be exploited.

4. Non-featured tournaments in the DraftKings lobby are incredibly soft.

Most people don't know that these 200-man GPPs even exist.

But the best part?

You will find a crazy amount of "cash game" type lineups in these.

Even better...

Now playing contrarian provides even more leverage.

You should play for 1st place, always.

Because that's where all the money is.

Better game selection is still your clearest path to improve your ROI in DFS.

5. Small tournaments are not sexy, but it's a much better spot to compete with pros.

Sure, you can build a bankroll by binking a large tournament.

I'd rather have a legit chance to win top-heavy payout structures more frequently.

Level up your stakes slowly.

Have skin in the game, show receipts.

6. Some of the best GPPs to enter are posted on DraftKings closer to lock.

They will add "secondary" tournaments if the large featured GPPs are going to fill.

This is a huge deal:

• They are smaller fields (duh)

• More casual opponents

• More favorable prize structures

Tl;dr

1. Smaller field = Lower top score

2. Larger stacks are +EV

3. Ownership condenses on chalk

4. Play non-featured tournaments

5. Compete more frequently

6. Better contests closer to lock
